Job SummaryA leading healthcare technology firm is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands‑on expertise in the development of mechanical circulatory support devices, including left ventricular assist devices. This role supports the full product lifecycle from concept through commercialization, with a strong focus on design, analysis, prototyping, and verification of implantable Class III medical devices.
Key Responsibilities- Design, specify, verify, and validate mechanical components and subsystems in compliance with regulatory and quality standards
- Apply analytical methods including finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics to optimize performance and reliability
- Develop and execute test methods using compression and tension testing equipment such as INSTRON or similar systems
- Create and maintain detailed CAD models and drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and technical documentation efforts
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including systems, electrical, software, clinical, and manufacturing engineering
- Interface with suppliers to source and evaluate prototype and production components
- Mentor junior engineers and promote continuous improvement initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field
- Six or more years of experience in mechanical design and product development within the medical device industry
- Proficiency in Solid Works or equivalent CAD software and experience with finite element analysis tools
- Hands‑on experience developing and executing mechanical test methods
- Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for reliability
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects in a regulated environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Class III implantable or cardiovascular devices
- Knowledge of medical device regulations and design control requirements
- Exposure to computational modeling, fluid dynamics, and hemocompatibility testing
- Experience with electromechanical integration, cable design, and biocompatible materials
