Overview
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise in the development of advanced mechanical and electromechanical systems for life-sustaining medical devices. This role focuses on full product lifecycle support, including design, analysis, prototyping, and testing of complex implantable systems. The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities- Specify, design, verify, and validate mechanical components and subsystems in compliance with quality and regulatory standards
- Develop and execute mechanical test methods using compression and tension testing equipment to evaluate design performance
- Perform analytical and experimental evaluations using finite element analysis and related simulation tools
- Create and maintain detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, and documentation with proper geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and technical documentation activities
- Collaborate with systems, electrical, software, clinical, and manufacturing teams throughout development cycles
- Support prototype builds, supplier interactions, and transition to production
- Mentor junior engineers and promote continuous improvement and engineering best practices
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Extensive experience in mechanical design and product development within regulated industries
- Strong proficiency in computer-aided design tools and engineering drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Hands-on experience developing and executing mechanical test methods using compression or tension testing systems
- Solid understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for reliability
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and communicate effectively across teams
- Exposure to implantable or high-reliability mechanical systems
- Familiarity with regulatory design controls and risk management processes
- Experience with computational modeling or advanced mechanical simulations
