SUMMARY:

The emphasis for the Reading Specialist will be on supporting teachers and students in the area of Literacy. The Reading Specialist will work closely with the K-8 Literacy Coordinator under the Building Principal to accomplish the following:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provide instructional leadership in literacy for Grades K-5.

* Participate in Department, Team, and Problem-Solving Meetings.

* Support the implementation of high-quality instructional materials and literacy curriculum; lead building-based professional development as needed.

* Instruct Reading Strategies courses and deliver evidence-based small group literacy instruction and interventions.

* Analyze student data and develop or update intervention plans using multiple data sources, including DIBELS-8 and i-Ready reports.

* Co-lead data teams to inform instructional practices.

* Clearly articulate student intervention plans aimed at improving academic achievement and literacy outcomes.

* Oversee the execution of intervention plans, including progress monitoring and ensuring fidelity of implementation.

* Facilitate interventionist meetings and provide embedded, ongoing professional development.

* Collaborate with the Literacy Coordinator and Reading Specialists to share updates, strategies, and changes with interventionists and classroom teachers.

* Attend monthly meetings with other Reading Specialists held by the Literacy Coordinator.

* Plan and support the onboarding of new teachers, as well as those transitioning between grade levels or teams.

* Partner with teachers to co-design lessons that emphasize small group instruction and differentiation.

* Work with the Principal, Instructional Team, and Reading Specialists to develop schedules for literacy support services.

* Collaborate with the Principal, Instructional Team, Literacy Coordinator, and teachers to plan and maintain regular communication regarding literacy initiatives.

* Serve as a member of Literacy Curriculum Committees.

* Meet regularly with the Reading Specialist team to coordinate interdisciplinary curriculum connections and to support district literacy goals.

* Perform other duties as assigned by the K-8 Literacy Coordinator and the Building Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

* ELA and Reading Specialist certifications.

* A minimum of five years of lead classroom teaching experience.

* Demonstrated expertise in English Language Arts content and pedagogy.

* Strong knowledge of assessment practices, including the ability to use assessment data to inform instruction and evaluate program effectiveness.

* Proficiency with technology to support instructional strategies, including the integration of emerging digital tools into curriculum design and delivery.

* Documented experience in curriculum development.

* Proven ability to collaborate effectively with educators in a variety of roles, including interventionists, special educators, and classroom teachers.

COMPENSATION:

In accordance with the Burlington Educators' Association Unit A contract.

This is a 186 Day Work Year and additional expectations related to professional development beyond the school day/year.

Start Date:

March 6, 2026 through the end of the 2025/2026 school year.
