Assistant/Associate Program Director Emergency Medicine Residency Program

The Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR) Program at Mass General Brigham is seeking an innovative educator to join our leadership team as an Assistant Program Director. HAEMR is a four-year training program with 60 residents who split their time primarily between Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), with additional rotations at Boston Children’s Hospital and Newton‑Wellesley Hospital (community site).

The program has a long history of training future academicians, with many graduates pursuing fellowship training after graduation.

Candidates must be Board Eligible or Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. The ideal candidate will have completed a fellowship in medical education and have previous experience as a clerkship director or assistant/associate program director. New fellowship graduates are also encouraged to apply. The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to teaching, curriculum design, and education scholarship, as well as to the mentorship and professional development of residents.

The successful candidate will join a motivated residency leadership team consisting of the Program Director, four other APDs, a program manager, and two program coordinators. Local leadership includes the Chair and Executive Vice Chair of Emergency Medicine, as well as the Vice Chair of Education. The position offers opportunities for professional development, a competitive salary, and an outstanding comprehensive benefits package.

The candidate would be considered for an academic rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School commensurate with experience, achievement, recognition, and teaching.

Interested candidates should send a letter and Curriculum Vitae to Michael Van Rooyen, MD, MPH, Professor and Chair, Mass General Brigham Department of Emergency Medicine. Please apply by confidential email to shackettvard.edu. Our department and residency program value diversity, equity, and inclusion. We seek candidates who are committed to promoting an equitable and inclusive environment for our patients and trainees. We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy and pregnancy‑related conditions or any other characteristic protected by law.
