Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon for Lahey Hospital and Medical Center
Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is a 396‑bed tertiary‑care hospital and Level I trauma center that manages 1,800 trauma activations annually. It is located in Burlington, MA, a family‑friendly town with excellent schools and headquarters for several multinational companies.
- Work well with a multidisciplinary team including residents, advanced practice providers, students, and other support staff.
- Run one of two busy daytime Acute Care Surgery (ACS) services with a daily census of 20–25 patients.
- Be involved in nighttime and weekend in‑house call coverage for emergency general surgery, trauma, surgical rescue, emergency colorectal and bariatric surgery; SICU coverage; difficult airway response team; and non‑emergency central venous access team.
- Participate in the Division’s quality and process improvement efforts and other administrative work as designated by the Chair or ACS Medical Director.
- Educate surgical residents and medical students from the University of Massachusetts and Tufts medical schools.
- Pursue and maintain an active trauma/ACS‑related research interest of your choice.
Note:
- For this role, there is currently no intention for daytime weekly SICU staffing participation. However, SICU clinical rotations may be available in the future.
- Evolution of this role to support an elective general surgery clinical practice is anticipated.
- Completion of General Surgery residency and Surgical Critical Care fellowship.
- Board certified or board‑eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care (with eligibility period consistent with Lahey’s Medical Staff Association guidelines).
- Eligibility for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Eligibility for academic appointment at the University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Participation in clinical research in trauma and acute care surgery during the period of employment.
$375,000 USD – $450,000 USD (annual base salary). The position may be eligible for additional performance‑based incentive compensation.
