The Opportunity
Ulteig is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of OT Network & Systems Administrator II working in the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department. The OT Network & Systems Administrator II is a hands-on technical role, responsible for designing, programming, testing, and troubleshooting network equipment and servers to support our client’s needs. The primary designs support Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and data historization in the renewable power industry.
You will collaborate within a highly supportive, multidisciplinary team to design network architectures and configure managed switches, firewalls, and servers. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience in at least one hardware category and working knowledge of at least two categories, paired with a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
What You'll Do
Design network infrastructure and make recommendations to support client needs. The network design tasks typically consist of the following elements:Create Layer 1, 2, 3 drawings to depict the networkCreate an IP address spreadsheet for all devices on the networkDefine firewall rules to facilitate the necessary secure communication between devicesConfigure, test, and troubleshoot network equipment using industry best practices for secure networks.Configure firewalls to allow only desired traffic between devices (common vendors are Fortinet, Palo Alto)Coordinate and troubleshoot VPN tunnels to allow remote trafficConfigure network switches (common vendors are Cisco, SEL, Hirschmann, Antaira)Support engineers and clients with communication issues as they ariseConfigure client servers under the supervision of a Lead AdministratorInstallation of operating systems (Windows and Linux)Installation of SCADA applications (Ignition and others)Installation of historian database (Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Maria
DB)Configuration of Virtual MachinesConfigure Network Attached Storage (NAS) or recovery solutionsTake ownership of quality and participate in QC checks of designs and configurations.Fosters strong client relationships, demonstrating responsiveness both within the organization and externally, with regular client engagement.Prepare reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects.Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.Must possess a valid Canadian Driver’s License and ability to meet company driving standards.Must have the ability to travel across the United States and Canada.What We Expect from You
Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or combination of education and experience in lieu of degree with relevant industry experience along with related professional network certifications (CCNA, Network+, VCTA-DCV, etc.)Position is highly flexible for remote/hybrid, with office space available in some regions if desired. Occasional travel to work sites in the US and Canada is required.Strong communication skills are required to maintain positive client relationships.Able to work closely and effectively with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.Attention to detail and strong time management skills.Hands on experience with design, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of network environment including routers, firewalls, switching and wireless.Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvementIt is a plus if you have
Understanding and experience with NERC CIP standards and how the control environment impacts both the business and IT/OT processes and systems is preferred.Experience working in the electric utility industry or other industrial network environments with exposure to SCADA devices or protective relays is strongly preferred.Proficient understanding of setting up or overseeing physical or virtual servers, with a preference for experience in Hyper Converged Solutions or alternative redundant server configurations (such as VMware VSAN and others).Basic…
