Police Officer
Summary
Responsible for routine preventive patrol, law enforcement, traffic enforcement and related duties. Assigned mainly to Patrol, may be assigned to Detective as needed.
Applicants who are currently TCOLE certified or in an academy graduating with certification within 30 days are exempt from entrance exam. If exempt, applicants will proceed to the next step of the hiring process with completion of background packet and polygraph packet. Attach completed items with your application.
Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent.
- TCOLE certification for Police Officer.
- Valid Class C Texas driver's license with a good driving record.
- DD214 for prior military service, if applicable.
- Basic math to calculate speeding violations, elapsed time, and accident reconstruction.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal criminal laws; laws relevant to police conduct; human behavior and motivation; techniques of self‑defense; current police methods and practices.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to read and understand reports, memos, manuals, policies, rules, regulations, laws, ordinances, and statutes.
- Ability to write accurate, thorough, and complete reports.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with citizens and other officers.
- Ability to use reasoning to make timely, accurate decisions in a variety of circumstances.
- Ability to exert force as needed to intervene in conflict situations or subdue suspects.
- Availability for call back after hours and providing personal contact phone numbers.

Hiring incentives:
- $10,000 hiring incentive.
- $5,000 upon successful completion of required department field training.
- $5,000 upon 1‑year anniversary of employment as a certified police officer.
- $2,500 relocation reimbursement up to 75 miles; up to $2,500 in moving expenses if relocating more than 75 miles.
$78,300.00 - $99,188.10 per year.
