Job Summary

The Sr Automation & Controls Supervisor coordinates Engineering functions and people covering all aspects of electrical and automation engineering in the factory. Technical expertise includes electrical distribution, instrumentation and automation, as well as knowledge of MES (Manufacturing Execution System), Digital solutions, food processing technology, and project management. The role sets the overall strategic and tactical direction for the E&A and maintenance department with a focus on people and product safety, reliability, sustainability, compliance, and business objectives.

Actively participates in the planning and support/delivery of capital investment projects.

Essential Functions
  • Support building Automation & Controls and electro‑mechanical skill capability:
    Ensures that personnel managing, operating and maintaining equipment and infrastructure are competent to do so safely and efficiently. Ensures that competency assessment and competency building plans are in place, routinely reviewed and executed in the factory.
  • Deliver Process Improvements:
    Has a deep insight of the production processes (Process Mastership) and continuously strives for the improvement of quality, safety or efficiency while protecting technological know‑how and competitive advantage.
  • Operate and Maintain:
    Participates in the implementation and execution of maintenance strategy, tools and methodologies at site level. Ensures safe and reliable operation of electrical systems, instrumentation, process and supervisory control, and manufacturing execution systems (MES). Implements digital technologies to drive reliability and process improvements.
  • Manage Risk and Compliance:
    Ensures that all installations comply with market and corporate safety, health, environment, product safety and product quality standards. Ensures that the key documentation is up to date and in place (e.g., electrical drawings, automation documentation and backups, maintenance plans, etc.) and that the Management of Change is in place to appropriately manage modifications involving relevant systems.
  • Drive Sustainability:
    Actively participates in factory sustainability objectives, defines priorities, develops and ope rationalises the strategy to generate energy and water savings, and tracks and reports results from any improvement projects, even those not specifically related to sustainability.
  • Manage factory asset portfolio:
    Ensures a strategy is in place to anticipate asset end‑of‑life, obsolescence and replacement requirements without compromising asset performance and cost competitiveness, and anticipates stakeholder awareness for capital planning purposes.
  • Excel in Industrialisation:
    Participates in all capital investment projects in the factory that involve the area, ensuring that the technical solution follows corporate and market standards and is delivered with the expected quality, on time and on budget.
Minimum Qualifications Education/Certification
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, strongly preferred or 5+ years of applicable experience in lieu of a degree.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with Automation and/or MES engineering with Electrical experience (as Project Engineer, Project Manager or Factory MES‑E&A Engineer).
  • Experience in managing/direct supervision of technical teams, contractors or other third parties.
  • Experience in delivering technical trainings.
  • Experience in project management, including participation in the development of engineering projects as part of a multidisciplinary team and participation in the start‑up of technical equipment(s) and/or production line(s).
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple to complex correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and group situations to customers, clients, and other team members of the organization.
  • Ability to use effective problem‑solving skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment and/or clothing.
  • Sit 8 or more hours per day.
  • Stand/walk 7 or more hours per day.
  • Frequently bend, reach, twist/turn and climb.
  • Occasionally squat.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulder and carry 30 feet.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and colour vision.
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions
  • Constantly work in damp, wet, humid and slippery environments.
  • Constantly work near moving equipment with fumes or airborne debris.
  • Constantly work in extreme heat/cold.
  • Constantly work in high noise levels requiring hearing protection.
  • Occasionally work in high places.
  • Occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
Machines/Tools/Equipment/Software
  • Bump cap, hair net, safety glasses, hearing protection, and uniform or smock.
  • Knife and small hand tools.
Leadership/Management Responsibility
  • Yes, small team of maintenance associates.
