Wastewater Collections Division (WCD) is seeking an ambitious electrician to join a diverse group of electricians who support the Wastewater Pumping Stations.
Key Responsibilities- Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance of three-phase industrial electrical equipment up to 4160 volts, including MCC, panel boards, standby generators, motors, pump controllers, HVAC equipment, switch gear, rackable breakers, VFD'S and soft starters and other electrical equipment in the Wastewater Pumping Stations.
- Performs a wide range of complex preventive/corrective maintenance and general housekeeping to maintain continuous operation of industrial electrical equipment.
- Lists and orders necessary parts to restock, repair or replace all industrial electrical equipment throughout the pumping stations.
- Utilizes computers and software to maintain work orders, requisition parts, for preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Performs work in permit confined spaces, hazardous areas that require respiratory protection and personal protective gear, slippery and wet conditions.
- Attends required electrical training to ensure work is performed safely and correctly.
- Complies with the regulatory requirements and national electrical code.
- Subject to 24-hour call back and must, therefore, be able to work emergency overtime.

Note: Wastewater Management positions are responsible for providing uninterrupted sewer service to residents during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies. This position is designated as emergency service and is subject to 24-hour on-call and may be required to report to work during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies, including after-hours and weekend work during emergency incidents to fulfill emergency service duties.
EmploymentStandards
Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the following: graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education or equivalent; successful completion of an approved electrician's apprentice program and four years of experience as an industrial electrician.
- A valid driver's license.
- A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Journeyman Electrician's license.
Necessary Special Requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and a medical examination to the satisfaction of the employer prior to appointment. Subject to 24-hour call back and must, therefore, be able to work emergency overtime. Subject to working in adverse weather conditions and may be exposed to raw waste or environments generating methane gas.
Ability to distinguish different color wiring.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year experience working in an industrial setting and working on industrial electrical equipment.
- Four (4) years of work experience observing electrical safe work practices.
- One (1) year experience reading one line and schematic drawings.
- One (1) year experience conducting preventive maintenance practices.
