POSITION AND PROGRAM

DESCRIPTION:

New Futures is a program of Southwest Youth and Family Services and partners with families in their communities and with educators to ensure that children succeed in school and in life. Our integrated, culturally relevant programs build skills, foster connectivity, and promote strengths. We operate vibrant community learning centers at three low-income apartment complexes in South King County, providing services and community building programs on-site to children, youth, and families.

The tutor will assist the Program Coordinator in administering summer and after-school program activities at one of the three New Futures Program sites located in Burien and Sea Tac. The tutor will also act as a mentor and positive role model for students during the program. The successful candidate will share our vision of a future where all children thrive and have the opportunities and resources to reach their full potential.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist Academic Coordinator with program activities
  • Lead teambuilding and reflection activities
  • Lead small groups (may be reading, project-based learning, etc.)
  • Engage and build relationships with elementary school students
  • Tutor elementary, middle and/or high school students during homework help time
  • Collaborate with Academic Coordinator to develop activities for youth
  • Assist with program set up, preparation of snack, group management, and break down
  • Assist with clean up, dishes, and other program components
  • Perform related work as assigned
  • Attend & chaperone field trips
REQUIREMENTS
  • An open, caring, and non-discriminatory attitude
  • Good written and oral English skills
  • Bilingual is a plus (Spanish or Amharic)
  • Willingness to submit to and pass a criminal background check
  • Preferred but not required: 21+ and ability to drive and transport students (valid Washington driver’s license & clear driving record with no more than two moving violations in the last three year
