Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using Game Stop's buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Assistant Store Manager develops a sales culture by creating solutions for each guest and providing outstanding service.
EssentialJob Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide best-in-class guest service: greet, respond to questions, recommend items, and thank every guest for shopping at Game Stop.
- Support visual and operational aspects of the store, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships.
- Process guest purchases/returns accurately using the POS system.
- Respond to guest comments or questions; answer phone calls promptly and professionally.
- Promote Game Stop’s guest benefits programs.
- Assist the Store Manager with training and setting guest service expectations for store associates.
- Observe associate performance, provide timely feedback to the Store Manager, and address unsatisfactory performance.
- Provide recognition and feedback to all store associates; record performance feedback into Workday/HR system.
- Ensure all associates complete onboarding, job and compliance training before opening or closing a shift.
- Schedule store associates, ensuring compliance with scheduling guidelines and accounting for breaks and meals.
- Approve payroll, enter paid time off, and verify associates are paid for all hours worked.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all store areas and ensure fixtures and equipment are functional.
- Fulfill and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily.
- Protect company assets through inventory control and loss prevention practices.
- Support the team in achieving sales, profit, and shrink goals.
- Perform inventory counts, stock/restock merchandise, and keep products organized and alphabetized on shelves.
- Count, balance, and reconcile daily business transaction totals in the POS system; prepare bank deposits.
- Verify shipments for discrepancies and report findings.
- Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls accurately.
- Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety and report injuries promptly.
- Maintain store records and ensure manuals are up to date.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders when the Store Manager is absent.
- Adhere to Game Stop policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
- Follow all opening and closing procedures.
- Proof of identity and U.S. work eligibility.
- At least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
- At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
- At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred.
- Video game knowledge preferred.

- Basic mathematics and alphabetizing skills.
- Complete required paperwork properly.
- Execute financial tasks following company policy.
- Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Manage pressure, adapt to stress, and solve problems creatively.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and judge well.
- Work alone; stand and move up to 12 hours per day.
- Lift merchandise up to 30 lbs. and perform basic physical tasks.
- Understand military ranks and insignia (if applicable).
