Job SummaryThe CNC Machinist produces machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records and maintaining equipment and supplies.
Responsibilities- Understand work orders, blueprints, manufacturing orders, and machining parameters
- Validate material used
- Maintain specifications; troubleshoot, detect malfunctions and take appropriate actions; know when to replace worn tools
- Listen to machining operations to detect sounds indicating dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and compensate for problems
- Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, fixtures and knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GDT) standards
- Maintain continuity among shifts by documenting and communicating actions taken and any necessary further steps
- Any other task assigned by supervisor or management
- Maintain conscientious work behaviors including work ethic, safety standards, quality, costs, and on-time delivery (OTD)
- Experience:
2+ years machining with CNC Mills, preferably in aerospace manufacturing. Experience on 4-5 axis CNC Mills (Mazak, Fadal, or Toyoda experience preferred). - Knowledge:
Knowledge of inspection equipment (micrometers, calipers, height gages); knowledge of safety procedures and regulations; knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing; understanding of cutting tool geometry; knowledge of tooling and coordination - Skills/Abilities:
Able to work quickly and efficiently through process improvement structure; good verbal and written communication; strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping - Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or equivalent - Eligibility:
This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
- Experience working with Mazak, Fadal, or Toyoda CNC machines
- Understanding of CNC G Code
- Understanding of basic math, geometry and trigonometry
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment
- May require the use of safety equipment such as eye protection, gowns, masks, hearing protectors and other PPE
- May be exposed to loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes
- Flexible and willing to work overtime if necessary
- Physical demands:
Standing for long periods; lifting up to 30 pounds; pushing up to 50 pounds - Mental/Visual: use of microscope, computer and blueprints
- Workspace: clean bench, measuring table
Hourly ranges for CNC Machinist II and III. The level of the position will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
- CNC Machinist Level II: $34.00 to $44.00
- CNC Machinist Level III: $28.00 to $46.50
