* Job Summary:
** The Conventional Machinist I has some knowledge on setting up and operating a variety of conventional machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments including fabricating, modifying, or repairing mechanical instruments. The Conventional Machinist I may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

* Essential Functions:
*
* • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as conventional lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, or drill press
• Communicate with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information
• Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measurement instruments
• Set up, adjust, and operate all of the conventional machine tools, drill presses and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials into machines
• Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
• Study sample parts, blueprints, and drawings to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products up to geometric dimensional tolerances
• Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work
• Listen to operating machines or equipment in order to detect machine malfunctions and compensate for problems
• Any other task assigned by supervisor or management

* Minimum Qualifications:
***

Experience:
** 1+ year training in conventional machining involving both on-the-job experience and informal training*
* • Knowledge:
** Knowledge of various inspection equipment i.e. micrometers, calipers, height gages;
Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations;
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing;
Understanding of cutting tool Geometry;
Knowledge of tooling and coordination*
* • Skills/Abilities:
** Able to work quickly and efficiently through Process Improvement structure;
Good verbal and written communication;
Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping•

* Education/Certification:
** High School Diploma or equivalent•
** Eligibility Requirement:
** This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

* Preferred Qualifications:
*
* • Experience in Aerospace industry
• Machine shop class(es) at local junior colleges
• Understanding of basic Math, Geometry and Trigonometry

* Working Conditions:
*
* • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment
• Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE
