Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Data Center Optical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in racking, cabling, and stacking equipment, decommissioning, break‑fix, remote hands services, hardware replacement, and network transport optical troubleshooting. The Optical Engineer will ensure the seamless operation of our data center facilities, providing top‑notch customer service and technical support.
Key Responsibilities- Break‑Fix:
Provide shiftwork support, including nights and weekends. - Remote Hands:
Install data center equipment, perform basic testing, and follow MOPs and vendor documentation. - Cabling:
Pull long lengths of heavy cables, install and troubleshoot Ethernet and fiber cables and connectors. - Optical Testing and Troubleshooting:
Terminate and test 10/100G circuits using BERT, RFC
2544, Ether
SAM (Y.1564), and iPerf. - Site Audits:
Validate equipment placement, cable assignments, and document results. - Racking and Stacking:
Organize hardware equipment in racks following SOPs. - Decommissioning:
Safely remove and dispose of outdated hardware following destruction protocols. - Hardware Replacement:
Replace faulty hardware components, including routers, switches, and servers. - Power Management:
Manage power feeds, redundancy, ATS, and hot/cold aisles. - Documentation:
Interpret cut‑sheets and ensure accurate port connections and cable management. - AC and DC Power Equipment:
Maintain and troubleshoot power equipment. - Oversight:
Provide oversight of third parties’ on‑site activities.
- Experience:
3-5 years as a technician in data center operations or a similar environment; team lead experience preferred. - Soft Skills:
Self‑starter with independent work; team player with excellent interpersonal communication; excellent organizational and administrative skills; effective written and oral communication in English; ability to multi‑task and maintain composure in stressful work environments; think forward and learn new concepts quickly; follow safety standards; communicate across departments; use hyperscale standards for quality.
