AP teams protect guests, team members, and the brand by mitigating theft and fraud, maintaining a safe environment, and managing crisis events. They collaborate with store leaders, law enforcement, and public safety officials.
Skills- Leading a security culture, including crisis response, safety, and crowd‑management planning.
- Implementing daily/weekly workload priorities aligned with business goals.
- Responding to external and internal theft incidents and preventing future theft.
- Implementing strategic resolutions of external theft and fraud and apprehending individuals per Target policy.
- Partnering with store leaders on operational shortage priorities.
- Leading a team of hourly team members, including interviewing, developing, evaluating, and retaining talent.
- Support store sales and profitability by ensuring products are in stock and available.
- Influence and validate physical security and safety processes; participate in store response and emergency crisis situations.
- Educate teams on emergency preparedness and physical security procedures.
- Develop, coach, and lead team members to elevate their skills.
- Anticipate staffing needs and talent‑plan with a culture of accountability.
- Identify theft and shortage trends and support initiatives to reduce them.
- Manage a schedule aligned to guest and business needs, including early morning/overnight, evening, and weekend shifts.
- Own prevention, identification, and resolution of external theft incidents; apprehend offenders per policy.
- Investigate and resolve internal investigations directed by the AP leader.
- Educate store leadership on merchandise protection best practices and audit execution.
- Implement as directed by leadership and maintain the merchandise protection budget.
- Communicate AP priorities to the team, peers, and leadership.
- Build trust and accountability relationships with leaders and law enforcement.
- Maintain Target’s reputation through ethical conduct and compliance.
- Support team onboarding, learning, and training to close skill gaps.
- Serve as first responder for safety incidents.
- Lead a culture of safety, recognizing safe behaviors and responding to hazards.
- Represent Target in legal proceedings as necessary.
- Execute safety program routines such as Monthly Safety Meetings and Observations.
- Support merchandising strategies across the store, including storage and application.
- Greet guests warmly and assist them in a courteous manner.
- Address store needs, including emergencies, regulatory visits, and other business requirements.
- All other duties as needed.
- Enjoy interacting and helping others, including guests and teammates.
- Thrive in a fast‑moving, physically demanding role that requires teamwork, flexibility, and creative problem solving.
- Open to a flexible schedule with nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.
- Age 18 or older.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Meets any state or local licensure or other legal requirements.
- Retail and/or loss‑prevention experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
- Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
- Welcoming and helpful attitude.

- Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues.
- Interpret instructions, reports, and information.
- Climb up and down ladders.

- Remain mobile for the duration of the shift.
