Position Overview
The EAP Counselor Intern offers an excellent opportunity for a Master of Social Work (MSW) student to gain hands‑on clinical experience within an Employee Assistance Program. Interns will work closely with the EAP Senior Counselor and other staff to learn about the industry, complete intakes, engage in training, and provide confidential, solution‑focused counseling services to employees and their families. This position provides a professional environment to apply clinical skills in workplace settings and includes exposure to crisis intervention, assessment, and referral processes.
Key Responsibilities / Activities Clinical Counseling Services- Training to conduct confidential short‑term solution‑focused assessments and counseling for eligible EAP clients, including individual, couples, and family sessions.
- Opportunity to support crisis counseling and perform risk assessments in person or via phone for clients in immediate need.
- Assist in facilitating community referrals to appropriate mental‑health or social services when needed.
- Learn and document client interactions, assessments, and referral services within the CRM system, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to agency policies.
- Participate in case reviews and ensure accurate record‑keeping and reporting for program clients.
- Be trained to provide support for EAP telephone coverage, including backup support as needed.
- Assist with employee orientations, supervisor training, workplace wellness seminars, and participation in benefit fairs to promote the EAP program.
- Engage in clinical supervision sessions, actively receive feedback, and demonstrate a willingness to grow professionally.
- Collaborate with colleagues and staff to improve program efficiency and service delivery.
- Participate in team meetings and training opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in workplace wellness and EAP services.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, maintaining positive relationships with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the EAP team and its initiatives.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Master of Social Work (MSW) program with a focus on clinical practice.
- Must be receiving school credit for internship hours.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all clinical work.
- Competence with Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Experience or interest in Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and organizational development.
- Experience and/or training in solution‑focused counseling and assessment techniques.
- Knowledge of workplace wellness issues and related seminars.
- Knowledge of community resources for mental health, crisis intervention, substance abuse, and wellness.
- Cultural competence and sensitivity to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all professional interactions.
