an incumbent to a position in this class works as a glazier at the skilled craft worker level performing all types of glazing work. This work involves responsibility for efficient and workmanlike performance of a variety of glazing tasks. General instructions are received regarding what tasks to be performed permitting considerable leeway for planning the details of each assignment. Immediate supervision may be exercised over assigned employees.

• cut, set and replace broken windows, skylights, wire glass, plexi‑glass.
• mix and apply putty.
• remove broken glass from windows, skylights, etc.;
• repair window sashes and window hardware;
• erect glass partitions according to plans;
• salvage broken glass and cut same to usable sizes;
• perform incidental painting;
• requisition necessary supplies, materials and equipment as needed;
• build necessary scaffolds;
• drive to and from work site and vendor locations;
• perform related work as required.

• receive, review, assign, monitor and process work orders as required;
• verify and process employee daily records including time cards, travel logs, accident/compensation reports, personnel evaluation reports and other records and reports as required;
• consult with custodial engineers, administrators or vendors on required maintenance or repair activities needed in buildings or on equipment;
• consult with architects, inspections and engineering staff in the preparation of construction documents.

• successful completion of an apprenticeship program for glazier (3 years) and one year of full‑time experience as a glazier at the skilled craft worker (journeyman) level – certificate of completion must be presented at time of filing application.
• or, three years of full‑time verifiable experience as a glazier, one year of which must have been at the skilled craft worker (journeyman) level. Candidates who qualify under this provision must present at time of filing application an affidavit(s) from an employer(s) verifying the above work experience including the one year at the skilled craft worker level. This affidavit must include date of employment and duties performed.

note: all candidates must present at time of filing application either the certificate of completion of an apprenticeship program or the required affidavit(s) from an employer(s).

possession of a current nys drivers license which must be presented at time of appointment.

defined as work being performed independently; assisting or helping a glazier is not considered to be at the skilled craft worker level. (verifiable part‑time experience will be pro‑rated to meet full‑time experience requirement.)
