Position Summary
The Meyer Lab in the Department of Psychology at the University at Buffalo is seeking a full-time Research Technician to contribute to ongoing research in behavioral genetics and neuropsychopharmacology. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in animal models of motivation and addiction and will include extensive training in rodent surgery, behavioral models of neuropsychiatric disorders, and neurobiological methods.
Key accountabilities and responsibilities
- Conduct animal surgeries, drug administration, and tissue collection
- Conduct behavioral testing using rat models of learning, memory, and motivation
- Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and outcomes
- Manage inventory and order lab supplies
- Care for and monitor laboratory animals following laboratory protocols
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and work spaces

Minimum Qualifications- Education towards a degree in psychology, neuroscience, biology, or a related field
- At least one year of experience in a laboratory setting
- Familiarity with rodent handling and behavioral experiments
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Availability for evening and weekend work
- Bachelors degree in psychology, neuroscience, biology, or a related field
- Experience with jugular catheterizations in rats is highly desired
- Experience with stereotaxic surgery, histology, or neuropharmacology
- Experience with behavioral software (e.g., Med Associates)
- Interest in long-term research involvement (minimum 2 years)
Salary Range
$34,151- $46,000
