This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

The Western New York VA Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse to work Full Time (Nights) in the Intensive Care Unit Department (ICU) at the Buffalo VA Location.

The Intensive Care Unit provides care for those that are critically ill and in need of higher level of care. The Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care, collaborates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and/or guidelines. The incumbent will demonstrate performance and leadership that is broad enough to improve the care for acutely/critically ill patients who are at high risk for actual or potential life-threatening health problems, regardless of the setting for nursing care.

He/she provides peers with formal or informal constructive feedback for improvement, supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care, and fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of health care professionals.

The Registered Nurse - ICU evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations, and is responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. (The program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility.) The incumbent will have vast experience and knowledge with the situations in which they are ultimately expected to perform, skillfully integrating theoretical concepts, strong critical thinking skills, and exhibits an expert technically skilled practice.

The Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Applies the nursing process to systems or processes at the unit/team/group level to improve care. Demonstrates leadership by involving others in improving care

* Supports and enhances patient self determination. Serves as a resource for patients and staff in addressing ethical issues

* Identifies and assesses resource utilization and safety issues, taking appropriate action

* Acquires knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in an area of practice. Participates in educational activities to improve clinical knowledge and enhance role performance

* Evaluates practice of self and others using professional standards. relevant statutes and regulations. Takes action to improve performance

* Uses group process to identify, analyze and resolve care problems

* Educates colleagues and/or students and serves as a preceptor or mentor

* Initiates/Participates in quality improvement activities that result in approved outcomes

* Uses body of research to validate and/or change work group practice

Work Schedule:

Full-Time. Variable Nights (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM) to include weekends and holidays
