Summary

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will be responsible for providing comprehensive anesthesia care, including preoperative and postoperative nursing evaluations and documentation of findings. The CRNA prepares patients for anesthesia by assessing vital signs and lab results, and utilizes invasive cardiovascular monitoring when necessary. Responsibilities also include reviewing and ensuring the readiness of resuscitative equipment, administering anesthesia, and responding to Code 5 emergency calls in accordance with hospital policy.

This role requires participation in infection control practices, adherence to departmental policies and compliance standards, and availability for on-call assignments. The CRNA may serve as faculty or preceptor for graduate student nurse anesthetists and participate in continuing education initiatives. Additional duties include preparing required documentation and reports, maintaining quality assurance standards, and engaging in ongoing professional development through education and in-service programs.

License and Certification Requirement

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
• Eligibility for certification by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.
• Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and successful completion of an accredited nurse anesthesia program.

Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
