We are seeking an experienced Childcare Area Director to oversee the operational, regulatory, and financial performance of multiple New York State‑licensed childcare centers
. This senior leadership role provides strategic direction while supporting Center Directors to deliver high‑quality early childhood education, strong enrollment performance, and full regulatory compliance.
This role is ideal for a proven childcare leader with multi‑site management experience
, deep familiarity with NYS OCFS regulations
, and strong people‑management skills.
Multi‑Site Operations
- Provide leadership, coaching, and accountability for Center Directors across multiple locations
- Ensure consistency in educational programming, operational standards, and parent experience
- Conduct regular site visits and performance reviews
- Support enrollment growth, retention, and waitlist management
Regulatory Compliance (NYS OCFS)
- Ensure all centers remain fully compliant with New York State OCFS licensing requirements
- Lead preparation for inspections, audits, and corrective action plans
- Oversee staff qualifications, background checks, training hours, and ratio compliance
- Ensure health, safety, and child safeguarding standards are consistently met
Staff Leadership & Development
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of Directors and senior staff
- Coach leaders on performance management, staffing models, and scheduling
- Address escalated staff relations and disciplinary matters
- Promote a positive, compliant, and mission‑driven workplace culture
Financial & Business Oversight
- Monitor enrollment, payroll, labor ratios, and operating expenses
- Partner with ownership/finance on budgeting, forecasting, and growth planning
- Support subsidy compliance (CCAP), fee structures, and reporting requirements
Family & Stakeholder Relations
- Support resolution of escalated parent concerns
- Maintain strong relationships with regulators, partners, and community stakeholders
- Represent the organization professionally across all locations
- Degree or credential in Early Childhood Education, Education Administration, or related field
- 5–7+ years of leadership experience in licensed childcare or early learning environments
- Multi‑site or regional management experience strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of New York State OCFS regulations
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage compliance, and drive operational performance
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to travel regularly between centers
