Job Summary

Job Title: Contract Cleaner

Department: Adult Services

Job Grade: 1

Job Code: 0

Position Summary: The Janitorial Contract Cleaner performs janitorial work at sites within the community as assigned by the supervisor.

Reporting Relationship: The Janitorial Contract Worker receives direct supervision from the Contract Cleaning Supervisor or Manager as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Performs janitorial tasks which may include any of the following: general cleaning of offices, restrooms, entrances, stairwells and general facility cleaning.
  • Restock supplies in bathrooms, break rooms and common areas.
  • Empty all trash cans and replace liners; clean receptacles as necessary.
  • Use vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, buffers and other power tools as required.
  • Dusting and cleaning office furniture, per contract.
  • Specialized cleaning to include carpets, stripping and refinishing of floors, washing walls and windows.
  • Clean windows and windowsills.
  • Wear safety equipment for personal protection.
  • Maintain janitor closets in a clean, safe and operable condition.
Qualifications and Education

Education: High School or GED preferred, but not required. At least 1 year paid work experience in any of the following: industrial, building, maintenance and/or janitorial.

Licenses: A valid NYS Driver’s license with an approved driving record is preferred, but not required; must have reliable transportation to assigned work site.

  • Good attendance is vital for the efficient and effective operation of quality programming and is an essential job function of this position.

Other Requirements

Mental Requirements: Good knowledge of work expectations, ability to move from task to task with minimal direction, be detail-oriented, operate janitorial equipment, and work with cleaning chemicals safely. Must be flexible with job assignments and work hours; ability to prioritize multiple projects; work independently or with others; be approachable and positive.

Human Relations

Skills:

Ability to communicate positively and serve as a professional role model for developmentally disabled individuals; take instruction well and maintain a professional attitude and appearance.

Equipment Operation: Ability to operate cleaning equipment (commercial vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, extraction equipment, etc.) and hand tools (mops, wringers, brooms, scrapers, etc.).

This position is NON-EXEMPT from the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
