Casualty Analyst – Specialty Claims

Location: Buffalo, NY

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 8 days per month in office, remaining days remote.

Merchants Insurance Group is a leading Property and Casualty insurer in the Northeast. We are seeking a Casualty Analyst – Specialty Claims to join our Claim Legal Group in Buffalo, New York. The candidate will provide high‑level technical expertise for commercial umbrella, excess liability, and multi‑party catastrophic injury claims.

• Build relationships with internal staff, policyholders, attorneys, agents, and service providers to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Provide technical expertise for complex high‑exposure liability and extra‑contractual claims.
• Manage a pending claim inventory of select complex claims, including commercial umbrella, excess liability, and multi‑party catastrophic injury.
• Stay current on case law, statutory, and regulatory changes; train and inform casualty and litigation claim representatives.
• Handle all claim activities from investigation to disposition: litigation management, settlement negotiations, risk transfer guidance, training of claim staff, presentation to the Large Loss Committee, and reinsurance reporting.

• 4‑year degree or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of complex high‑exposure claim handling.
• Training and coaching skills.
• Strong policy interpretation and coverage analysis.
• Knowledge of regulatory and judicial venues.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Strong organization and ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Collaboration skills for complex resolution strategies.
• Computer skills:
  Microsoft Office and document imaging systems.

Estimated salary: $85,000 – $115,000, plus equity and a comprehensive benefits package. Compensation may vary based on experience and qualifications.
