Position: Coach Check Caller

We are seeking a COACH Check Caller to provide information, referrals, counseling, and crisis intervention to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families who utilize the emergency hotline. A successful COACH Check Caller provides outreach and assurance to individuals and their families upon request.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide outreach and assurance to individuals and their families through information/referral, counseling, and advocacy.
  • Provides crisis intervention via telephone.
  • Administers lethality assessment when necessary and ensures health and safety.
  • Notifies Project C.O.A.C.H. Specialist and/or Intake and Intervention Coordinator of situations requiring program supervision or personal intervention.
  • Recognizes situations that require an incident report. Gathers facts for incident reporting and forwards to appropriate parties in a timely manner.
  • Assists callers in contacting after-hours emergency support.
  • Act as liaison between callers and support agencies.
  • Completes required documentation as necessary, including program case notes.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Education and Experience
    • a. High School Diploma/GED
  • Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
    • a. Knowledge of developmental disabilities, mental illness, and behavioral issues that impact on the lives of the people we serve.
    • b. Knowledge of Agency and community resources.
    • c. Ability to use verbal calming and problem solving skills for individuals in crisis.
  • Verifications and Screenings
    • a. OPWDD clearance for convictions of criminal offenses.
    • b. Clearance through NYS Central Child Abuse and Maltreatment Register.
    • c. Pre-employment drug screening.
    • d. SCIP-R Philosophy
  • Physical and Mental Requirements
    • a. Exercising independent judgment, concentrating, thinking, communicating, interacting with others, managing multiple tasks and coping with stressful situations and deadlines.
    • b. Staying awake and alert while on duty.
    • c. Ability to perform sedentary physical activity of an administrative nature.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Will work in office environment.
  • Hours worked are outside of normal business hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
