The Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Teacher will provide IEP‑mandated orientation and mobility services to students with visual impairments, supporting them in developing safe and independent travel skills within school and community environments. The role includes working with approximately 20 students across multiple school sites while collaborating with educators, families, and service providers to meet each student’s individual goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver direct O&M instruction as outlined in students’ IEPs or 504 plans.
  • Provide training and guidance in independent travel skills for students with visual impairments.
  • Travel between assigned school sites to deliver services as scheduled.
  • Complete and maintain required documentation, including IEPs, Student Intervention Records (SIR), progress reports, and annual summaries via the district’s Frontline (IEP Direct) system.
  • Track and report student attendance and progress according to district requirements.
  • Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with NYSED Part 200 Regulations and district data‑sharing policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and related service providers to support student success.
Work Schedule & Location
  • Services provided across up to 15 Buffalo‑area schools.
  • On‑site during the school year and extended year (summer program, if mandated).
  • Typical hours:
    Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM (flexible based on IEP requirements).
  • Occasional after‑school hours for evaluations or meetings.
  • Travel between schools required (travel costs included in hourly/session rate).
Compensation
  • Session‑based billing according to IEP (30, 40, or 60 minutes).
  • IEP Paperwork and Evaluations: $120.
  • No additional compensation for travel, cancellations, or paperwork as per contract terms.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or related field.
  • ACVREP Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or equivalent NYSED credential.
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, preferably in a school setting.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between school sites.

Job Type: Full‑time

Pay: $35.00 – $65.00 per hour

Expected hours: 50 per week
