Responsible to:Physical Therapist
Job Summary:The Student – Physical Therapy is an unpaid student placement that a college student is completing to receive academic credit through their college/university. This student is responsible for providing PT function is impaired by congenital or developmental disability, physical illness or injury, as determined through examinations, evaluations, diagnosis, prognosis and interventions for the highest functional outcomes, under the direction of a licensed PT professional.
EssentialJob Duties:
- Display thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of physical therapy.
- Adhere to the standards of clinical practice established by the American Physical Therapy Association.
- Responsible for the evaluation of therapy needs. Administer motor based standardized assessment tools and use clinical skills to determine therapeutic needs of patients. Participate in the creation of the treatment plan, revising as necessary. Perform physical therapy procedures as ordered by physician or documented on IEP. Communicate with OT/PT Manager as appropriate to assess patient needs.
- Collaborate with other team members or those individuals designated by the agency (e.g. family members, teachers, speech-language pathologists, consumers, etc.) to facilitate comprehensive treatment.
- Serve as a supervisor and mentor to PTAs as well as student PTs.
- Participate in the delivery of in-service education programs.
- Participate in formal staff training and formalized in-service training as appropriate.
- Record on patient charts all appropriate physical therapy evaluations, progress notes, consultations and discharge summary information.
- Submit all notes, evaluations and required forms within agency guidelines.
- Maintain such records and prepare such reports as requested by the agency.
- Make recommendations for purchases of specialized program materials, supplies and adaptive equipment.
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a four year college or university and studying PT

- Constant physical demands: standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Frequent physical demand: sitting.
- Occasional physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling.
