Overview
Participates in an apprenticeship program centered around professional development, career growth and building the necessary skills to succeed. Gains exposure to assigned department through guest speakers and on-the-job training with a mentor to gain a broader understanding of the operations function and career opportunities across the bank.
Primary Responsibilities- Complete duties and responsibilities of an entry-level professional nature specific to assigned area of the Bank.
- Ensure activities adhere to established internal policies and external regulations as applicable.
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
The Business Operations Apprentice participates in a comprehensive training program designed to launch the candidate’s career in a banking operations related field. The Program offers a combination of career planning, technical and competency-based training, and mentorship activities to prepare incumbents for a successful career in banking and financial services.

Education and Experience Required- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Currently pursuing a related degree or credential
- Authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time, permanent basis without additional sponsorship
- Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in pertinent software, particularly spreadsheet software
- Proven analytical skills
- Proven critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Detail-oriented

The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above encompasses all geographic locations.
