This is a hands-on role for someone who can take incomplete requirements and turn them into complete design packages, while maintaining strict adherence to engineering, manufacturing, and military documentation standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with Design Engineers to support conceptual and detailed design development
Prepare complete design packages with minimal technical input, including:
Layouts
Schematics
Detail and assembly drawings
Parts lists (BOMs)
Perform complex redesigns and repackaging of existing products, including component and hardware sizing/selection
Execute engineering calculations related to sizing, performance, tolerances, and assembly
Select appropriate components, materials, and manufacturing processes
Design tooling and fixtures as required
Review and verify work completed by junior drafting personnel
Ensure compliance with company and military standards for design documentation
Support Production in resolving manufacturing and design-related issues
Coordinate with Production on:
Kit structures
Alternate parts
Revision control
Manage assigned projects to ensure on-time completion of deliverables
10+ years of mechanical design/drafting experience
Minimum Associate’s degree in Engineering (or related technical discipline)
Extensive experience with high-performance, high-density packaging design
Ability to work independently with minimal technical input
Strong understanding of:
Engineering principles
Drafting standards
Manufacturing processes
Model-Based Definition (MBD) experience highly desired
Proficiency with Siemens NX (3D MCAD) preferred
Mentoring or directing junior drafters
Vendor coordination for dimensional and functional specifications
Presenting design results and clearly substantiating:
Assumptions
Constraints
Analyses
