- Develop mechanical layouts, detailed drawings, and manufacturing documentation aligned with electrical designs and customer specifications.
- Design mechanical components and steel frame structures using established engineering principles.
- Perform linear structural stress analysis and define materials and FEA boundary conditions as required.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities including design, prototyping, validation, testing, and product release.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to new product and design improvement initiatives.
- Generate and coordinate complete Bills of Material (BOMs) for all mechanical components, materials, and standard accessories.
- Prepare material purchase requisitions for non-stock or special-order items.
- Prepare or direct the preparation of technical drawings, specifications, instructions, and engineering reports.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, material standards, and shop standards.
- Utilize CAD systems (AutoCAD and 3D modeling tools such as Autodesk Inventor) to produce accurate outlines, layouts, and detailed drawings.
- Use engineering software tools or develop calculation methods/programs to analyze design data and validate solutions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through adoption of advanced engineering and design tools.
- Review and check designs produced by other designers for accuracy, compliance with standards, and customer requirements (including nameplates and basic schematics).
- Investigate shop floor and field issues related to mechanical or electrical interfaces and implement corrective actions through Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
- Revise design practices to prevent recurrence of manufacturing or quality issues.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve shop and field questions efficiently while improving product quality and reducing cost.
- Work closely with the Engineering Manager, Project Managers, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to deliver timely and technically sound designs.
- Lead or support engineering projects involving investigation, analysis, and design.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Contribute input to strategic development initiatives aimed at improving transformer design, manufacturability, and application performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing, or technical environment.
- Proven experience with transformer products or other power-related equipment is highly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards (ANSI, IEEE, CSA, NEC, etc.).
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems and BOM management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage own work with full accountability and provide oversight or review of others’ work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and functions.
- Capable of coaching, training, and supporting junior team members.
- Creative, results-driven, and committed to continuous improvement.
