Join Solstice as a Sr. Advanced R&D Scientist who will lead environmental assessment initiatives for the next generation of novel chemicals. You will be part of the Discovery team that identifies and develops new and unique chemistry solutions to the current and emerging materials needs in the areas of data storage and communication, advanced energy storage, automotive and stationary refrigeration, personal care, building and construction.

The position will be based in Buffalo NY, USA (Buffalo Research Laboratories).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Contributes to the development of environmentally safe chemicals as part of a team of chemists and engineers that generate novel molecules and/or compositions for new applications.

  • Designs, plans, and executes experimental and theoretical chemistry assessments to evaluate the environmental impact of novel molecules.

  • Closely collaborates with the Chemistry, Physical Properties, Modeling and Applications teams to characterize new molecule design criteria, properties and application performance.

  • Drives environmental advocacy for next generation products and acts as the environmental chemistry expert as part of internal and/or external groups

  • Engages with external community in academia and/or industry for a variety of environmental chemistry projects

  • Effectively documents and communicates results and project progress to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strict adherence to established safety policies and procedures. Must be able to wear all types of PPE and respiratory equipment as appropriate.

  • Mentor and guide a team of R&D engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence

  • Drive innovation by identifying new technologies and methodologies

  • Conduct research to generate intellectual property (IP) and contribute to patent applications

  • Evaluate emerging technologies for their applicability to current and future projects

  • Conduct technology assessments to inform strategic decision making

  • Support the transfer of technology from R&D to manufacturing or production teams

  • Identify and assess technical and project related risks

  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies

Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or relevant field
WE VALUE
  • Postgraduate and/or industrial hands‑on experience in atmospheric chemistry or relevant fields.

  • Direct knowledge of atmospheric and physical chemistry experimental techniques, preferably with atmospheric lifetime determinations and degradation product characterization

  • Outstanding research experience in the field as documented by peer reviewed publications

  • Hands‑on experience in a chemical laboratory environment (chemical handling, analytical techniques such as FT-IR, GC, MS and other).

  • Experience in the environmental assessment of fluorinated chemicals will be considered a plus.

  • Problem solving and analytical skills

  • Technical curiosity and passion for R&D

  • Experience in a fast‑paced environment and commitment to project goals and timelines

  • Result oriented and collaborative working mindset.
