Pay Range
Base pay range: $/yr – $/yr. This range is provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
SummaryWestern New York VA Medical Center is looking for a Staff Physiatrist who will report to the Chief of PM&R. The candidate is expected to perform clinical care, continue medical education, participate in quality assurance and performance improvement, and uphold the organization’s core values and commitment to service excellence.
Qualifications- United States Citizenship.
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree obtained from an approved VA school.
- Full, unrestricted state license to practice medicine or surgery.
- Completed residency training in a VA‑approved core specialty program leading to board‑certification eligibility.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- In the event of academic training programs, board certification may be required for faculty status.
- Physicians currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training who meet the basic requirements may be designated “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs) on a fee‑basis.
- PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and are not considered independent practitioners.
- PRPs shall have a scope of practice that allows for certain restricted duties under supervision.
- Surgery residents in gap years may be appointed as PRPs.

- Physical requirements:

- Provide clinical coverage in outpatient physiatry clinics (general rehab, EMG, spinal cord injury, polytrauma, amputee services, etc.).
- Conduct outpatient musculoskeletal and neuromuscular examinations and provide rehabilitation, pain management, and injury‑prevention care.
- Prescribe therapeutic interventions and collaborate with rehabilitation therapists and other health‑care providers to design integrated rehabilitation programs for veterans.
- Perform and interpret electrodiagnostic studies (EMG and nerve conduction) with accurate documentation.
- Administer joint and trigger‑point injections as appropriate.
- Supervise and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and mid‑level providers in spinal cord injury and disease clinics.
- Document patient encounters and disseminate results promptly to referring clinicians.
- Provide coverage in prosthetic and orthotic evaluation and treatment when needed.
- Promote and support telehealth services.
- Maintain an appropriate clinical workload in accordance with professional standards.
- Adhere to quality‑assurance and performance‑improvement activities.
- Work schedule:
Monday‑Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (compressed schedules available).
