Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center (OPVMC) is seeking a dedicated Emergency Veterinarian to join our collaborative, 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital. As a vital member of our emergency team, you’ll manage a wide variety of urgent and complex cases in a fast-paced, fully equipped facility. This position is ideal for someone who thrives under pressure, values teamwork, and is passionate about delivering compassionate, high-quality care.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide emergency and critical care to small animal patients presenting with a variety of conditions
- Triage, diagnose, and manage high-acuity medical and surgical cases
- Develop and implement treatment plans quickly and accurately, with the support of skilled LVTs and VAs
- Collaborate with other departments, including internal medicine, surgery, oncology, and radiology, for comprehensive patient care
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with pet owners, especially during high-stress or emotionally difficult situations
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records using Ezy Vet and Smart flow
- Participate in case rounds, continuing education, and hospital-wide training opportunities
- Contribute to the growth of our emergency department through input on protocols and patient care improvements
- DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary school (Required)
- Emergency medicine experience preferred; internship-trained new graduates are encouraged to apply
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of New York (Required)
- Familiarity with AAHA guidelines and emergency care best practices
- Board certification in emergency/critical care or another specialty is a plus, but not required
- Confident and competent in making critical decisions under pressure
- Strong diagnostic, clinical, and surgical skills for emergencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration in a multi-specialty setting
- Compassionate approach to client interactions and end-of-life care
- Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of prioritizing cases during high-volume periods
- Proficient in or willing to learn EMR systems (ezyVet and Smart flow)
