How you make a differenceThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in patient care by contributing to the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Working under RN supervision, the LPN provides direction and guidance in patient education and activities that align with their education and demonstrated competencies.
Key Responsibilities- Under RN supervision, assess patients’ physical, psychological, and social dimensions in both the Health Care Unit and housing units, contributing to individualized treatment planning and consulting with RNs and staff as needed.
- Implement treatment programs directed by Health Care Practitioners, including administering medications and IV therapy (if certified) and performing diagnostic tests according to established protocols and procedures.
- Collaborate in controlled substance counts at the beginning of each shift and respond to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines.
- Assist in minor surgical procedures, implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans, and document nursing encounters using SOAP charting to ensure effective communication with staff, physicians, and other personnel.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions, demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to policies and procedures in providing high‑quality patient care.
Education
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Experience
- Prefer a minimum of one (1) year of clinic experience.
Licenses/Certifications
- Maintain current licensure as a Licensed Practical/Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of employment.
- Obtain and maintain CPR certification.
