Summary

Instruct students with disabilities in basic academic and social skills. Design and implement a program to help students with disabilities to access education, successfully complete educational milestones, and gain transition skills to become successful in adulthood. Complete paperwork, arrange and participate in meetings as required by Federal Law. Participate in the Child Study Team to design interventions, assess, and place students in appropriate programs.

Perform duties as part of site-based management teams in the school.

Reports to: Personnel Committee, TPP (Team Professional Practice), School Board of Directors

Supervised by: Indirect supervision Personnel Committee

Classification: 1.0 FTE

Terms of Employment: To be established by the Personnel Team and Board of Directors annually

Evaluation: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Personnel Team in accordance with School Board Policy and the Employee Handbook.

Benefits: Reviewed and established annually by the Personnel Team and Board of Directors. Wage based on experience and increases based on performance.
Employer Paid: Medical Insurance Plan, $50,000 Basic Life Insurance, Long-term Disability Plan, First Stop Health, Telemedicine & Virtual Counseling, TRA Retirement Pension and/or TSA Retirement Plan with 5% match.
Paid Time Off (PTO): 12 days annually, pro-rated for agreements under 1 year.

Salary: 45, annually. Terra Nova School is an EdVisions Cooperative member.

  • Coordinate with the Child Study team for the work of the Special Education Department
  • Review interventions with Child Find team;
    Assist in design and implementation of referral processes to identify students for Special Education
  • Plan, schedule, facilitate IEP meetings; develop & send out Notice of Team Meeting to all team members, organize input from meetings, write IEPs, and provide copies to required parties; distribute and file completed paperwork
  • Conduct student assessments for initial Special Education evaluations and three-year Special Education re-evaluations: observations, achievement testing, transition assessments, attendance, discipline/behavior, compile results, work with school psychologist and/or other outside providers to complete the evaluation report
  • Consult with staff about student progress, alternative learning, and evaluation methods for students accommodations and modifications
  • Meet with General Education Advisors of Special Education students regularly to discuss progress, make recommendations, and adjust student schedules if needed
  • Plan and carry out a program within the school to help all Special Education students attain basic skill levels and earn credits toward graduation
  • Stay in reasonable contact with parents about meetings, progress, and concerns; document communications in JMC
  • Design activities and strategies that will promote individual students’ academic, transitional, and behavioral goals
  • Report progress on goals and objectives twice a year using progress reporting in writing, and within the due process team meeting
  • Design, implement, and individualize alternative academic curricula for students
  • Design and implement a communication and social skills curriculum based on the needs of individual students
  • Help Special Education students, as needed, throughout the project process from proposal to presentation
