Job Description
Linden Oaks is a non-profit school and therapy center serving children and young adults, ages 12 months through 40 years of age. Established in 1955, Linden Oaks has been a renowned leader in special education and disability services, supporting Southern California. This position provides qualified candidates the opportunity to be an active member of students development by working 1:1 and in some cases small groups implementing best practices for communication development, behavioral strategies and academics.
As part of the student's team, paraprofessionals will work alongside our teaching faculty and robust therapy teams to implement a comprehensive individualized program for the students we serve.
Overall
Purpose:
Assist teachers and/or other certificated staff in operating a classroom or program for special education students. Work effectively and in harmony with teachers, related service providers, and students. Provide a positive role model for students.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in instructing/tutoring special education students in functional, academic, language, and/or specialized subject areas related to the level of achievement; present lessons, reinforce concepts, answer questions, monitor and check work.
- Assist teachers and/or other certificated staff in operating a classroom or program for special education students.
- Learn methods and procedures to be followed in an instructional situation. Assist in instructing/tutoring special education students in functional, academic, language, and/or specialized subject areas related to the level of achievement; present lessons, reinforce concepts, answer questions, monitor and check work.
- Assist in supervising and monitoring students to maintain effective learning and/or safe play/recreational environments.
- Assist in organizing the work environment; set-up and clean-up of materials for daily activities; maintain adaptive materials and areas in a neat and orderly condition.
- Review students’ relevant records or reports with the teacher. Assist in establishing and maintaining routine informational and operational records and files relating to program activities.
- Assist students with personal hygiene and grooming functions including toileting, diapering, eating, dressing, and other self-help skills.
- Manage volatile students physically using QBS procedures as needed; assist in physically transferring/lifting students.
- Accompany and monitor students on community-based instructional outings, work programs, and/or field trips; reinforce positive behavior in public settings; assist students in learning life skills
- Correctly lift at least 50 pounds alone or more with assistance and move students on and off a school bus and during outside activities as necessary.
- Other duties, as assigned, to support SLDC students, staff, and mission.

· Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
· Some positions may require specialized skills such as sign language, bilingual (oral, written or signed).
Physical Demands:Load and unload students on or off transportation; assist students with mobility devices;
Standing 70%, sitting 30%, walking 40%, lifting 40%, computer use 20%, bending 50%, stooping 50%, lifting up to 50lbs., running or sprinting occasionally, ability to implement emergency training (CPR, etc.) at all times, ability to implement emergency procedures (fire, earthquake, active shooting, etc.) at all times, etc.
Work Environment:
Walk on a variety of terrains, including tile, carpet, blacktop, concrete, sidewalks, wood deck, dirt, grass, and playgrounds; may need to walk up and/or down inclines and flights of stairs. Noise of classroom can vary from moderate noise levels to loud. Respond to student emergencies. May come in contact with blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases. #J-18808-Ljbffr
