Health & Safety Manager – Major Civils (Contract)

We are supporting a client organisation delivering one of the UK's largest and most complex infrastructure programmes in the appointment of an experienced Health & Safety Manager on a contract basis.

This role is operationally focused, with a strong site presence required to support live major civils works, while also allowing flexibility through a hybrid working arrangement.

The position is suited to candidates with genuine major civils experience. Consultancy or light construction backgrounds will not be suitable.

You will operate as a site‑embedded Health & Safety Manager, working closely with construction managers, engineers and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered safely, compliantly and in line with Tier 1 standards.

The role balances hands‑on site leadership with reporting, assurance and coordination activities completed remotely.

• Provide Health & Safety leadership across major civils works
• Maintain strong visibility on site (minimum 3 days per week)
• Embed H&S standards into site and subcontractor activities
• Conduct site inspections, audits and behavioural safety tours
• Review and challenge RAMS, temporary works and high-risk activities
• Support incident and near‑miss investigations and learning reviews
• Coach site leadership teams to improve H&S performance
• Act as the key H&S interface between site teams and the wider function

• NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
• Major civils experience OR extensive experience with a Tier 1 civils contractor in a project or regional H&S role
• Clear evidence of team leadership capability
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
