Job Summary
Manager Nursing - Telemetry role ‑hour accountability for a unit area. Provides leadership and communication, monitors the work environment, assures quality, manages the fiscal budget, manages human resources, and ensures the delivery of competent clinical practice. Oversees Central Processing, Telemetry floor.
Responsibilities- Support and actualize the Division of Nursing philosophy and goals by assuming leadership in program development and implementation.
- Develop staff to assume leadership roles both formally and informally, via role modeling and facilitating staff participation in shared governance structure.
- Facilitate development and implementation of solutions to problems.
- Develop and implement effective communication channels to provide information to all staff members, holding at least one unit meeting per month with posting of minutes and notice.
- Direct and participate in orientation of new employees, evaluate programs affecting employees; maintain an identified council structure with an elected Staff Nurse Professional Practice Council representative; conduct unit council meetings monthly incorporating new knowledge and skills.
- Maintain a positive working relationship and problem‑solving ability with other members of the patient care delivery team including physicians and other departments.
- Participate in committees and task forces as indicated; facilitate staff to assume leadership roles.
- Demonstrate positive leadership skills and communication that embraces changes, resulting in achievement of outcomes.
- Actively participate in clinical decision‑making affecting practice.
- Promote a caring, helpful environment including the arrangement of the physical setting and assembling equipment in a manner conducive to more effective and efficient nursing care.
- Participate in unit, service and divisional CQI/CQE programs, document results, report by deadlines, and formulate corrective action plans for improvement.
- Meet established research‑based standards of care, quality control targets, and operationalize CQI.
- Develop a multidisciplinary program to monitor quality patient care indicators.
- Maintain fiscal budget within established variance, focusing on hppd, labor cost per day, overtime, orientation costs, SSP costs and medical supplies.
- Adjust staffing patterns according to unit activity and patient acuity.
- Review fiscal worksheet, analyze variances and implement appropriate action plans.
- Develop and manage the unit budget to control operational and capital expenditures for capital equipment priorities based on patient unit needs and according to budget policy.
- Share leadership in place with structured recruitment and retention and PEP/professional practice.
- Facilitate professional growth and development of staff utilizing career development plans; identify staff career development and training needs; use CQI/CQE and staff input for educational programs.
- Demonstrate accountability for human and material resource management with division guidelines and standards by monitoring and correcting variances for productive and non‑productive utilization.
- Comply with personnel policies and procedures, follow guidelines and conduct effective performance interviews; job standards are understood by employees, etc.
- Direct and participate in orientation of new employees, evaluate program effectiveness and employee progress.
- Participate in an innovative program (pilot study, research project, etc.) that has affected patient care within the past year.
- Participate in a professional organization, i.e., specialty or administration.
- Maintain clinical exposure through actual intervention, coordination of patient care, role modeling, consulting, problem solving and in‑services.
- Ensure the effective delivery of competent, compassionate nursing care based on social, psychological, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients as demonstrated by patient care outcomes achieved through established standards of care and by patients and families’ perception of care.
