Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick (BBBS B/B) creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that help young people reach their full potential. We have recently grown and now serve Sagadahoc, Cumberland (Brunswick and Harpswell), Lincoln, and Androscoggin Counties. As demand for mentoring grows across our service area, we are investing in fundraising capacity to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.

POSITION OVERVIEW

BBBS B/B is seeking a motivated, strategic Development Director to lead and grow our fundraising during an exciting and pivotal period. This newly created role is designed to rebuild lost revenue, diversify funding sources, and support our expanded service area. The Development Director will work closely with the Executive Director, staff, board, and community partners to strengthen the organization's financial foundation.

The position is fully grant-funded for the first year, with a second year of funding contingent on success in the first year. Funding for this position is made possible by Together for Good:
The Salka Family Impact Group. The Board may consider a discretionary performance-based bonus and an increase in second-year base salary if organizational revenue and financial goals are exceeded. After year two, the position is expected to become financially self-sustaining.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive 12-month fundraising plan aligned with a two-year revenue growth strategy
  • Generate recovered and new revenue
  • Increase sustainable annual revenue
  • Diversify revenue streams across foundation, corporate, major gifts, individual giving, and events
Grants & Institutional Giving
  • Research, write, and manage foundation and corporate grant proposals and reports
  • Reengage lapsed funders and secure multi-year commitments
  • Build a consistent grant pipeline and tracking system
Individual & Corporate Giving
  • Cultivate and steward individual, corporate, and major donors
  • Develop and strengthen major gift and annual appeal strategies
  • Implement effective donor acknowledgment and retention systems
  • Plan, manage, and scale fundraising special events from concept through evaluation
  • Develop event sponsorship packages and revenue goals
  • Strengthen and diversify event-based fundraising strategies
  • Engage board members and volunteers in event leadership and sponsorship outreach
Systems, Infrastructure & Reporting
  • Build and strengthen donor tracking, reporting, and stewardship systems
  • Track fundraising metrics and provide regular progress reports to leadership and the board
  • Establish performance benchmarks aligned with revenue targets
  • Collaborate with staff to communicate program impact to funders and donors
QUALIFICATIONS Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of development experience building major gifts programs and infrastructure
  • Demonstrated success in identifying potential donors, building strong relationships, and maintaining meaningful ongoing engagement
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating and securing major gifts, corporate gifts, and grants ($20,000+)
  • Strong writing, communication, and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • While the position is mostly remote, this position needs to be local to Brunswick, Maine
Preferred
  • Experience with capacity-building or growing nonprofits
  • Familiarity with Maine's nonprofit or philanthropic landscape
  • Experience working in small or mid-sized organizations
