Job Overview
The Cleaning Team Leader – Projects and Scheduling is a working supervisor responsible for the day‑to‑day direction of a cleaning team, while actively participating in cleaning, inspecting, and inventorying campus properties. The focus is on supporting the Bowdoin Sustainable Cleaning Program by collaborating closely with the Cleaning Management Team to schedule and oversee routine cleaning tasks, daily assignments, and project‑based work.
Responsibilities- Perform general cleaning work assignments following established procedures and Bowdoin College Cleaning standards, using machinery, college‑provided products, floor stripping and refinishing, and train others to complete tasks.
- Supervise, direct, assist and ensure the team completes assigned cleaning tasks in accordance with established criteria daily by adjusting and inspecting work progress, carrying out special instructions or resolving cleaning problems. Attend all scheduled training sessions and meetings.
- Provide daily field oversight and report all damages and initiate maintenance service requests.
- Maintain inventory of supplies issued to complete assigned jobs, keep closet clean and free from clutter, and move furniture or office equipment as necessary.
- Schedule daily coverage for buildings to adjust for vacations/sick days and communicate accordingly; plan and schedule work for completion of daily customer work orders.
- Plan and coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly projects, including floor, carpet, maintenance, window cleaning, and other cleaning projects as well as reunion and summer cleaning needs. Schedule equipment moving and other logistics as needed.
- Provide coverage and support for Cleaning Team Leader‑Quality and Training and/or Cleaning Supervisor as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid Maine driver’s license required and ability to meet eligibility requirements as outlined in Bowdoin College Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate and relate well with a broad range of individuals on and off campus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple work assignments.
- Ability to lead a team effectively and guide group efforts to successful task completion.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and email applications (Outlook).
- Willingness and initiative to use technology and learn new software applications as needed.
- Minimum of four years related experience, including at least one year of supervisory and training experience.
- Prior training experience within the cleaning industry required.
- Experience using cleaning industry management software and maintenance management software preferred.
- Position subject to criminal history record check, motor vehicle record check and a pre‑placement physical.
- Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be considered for hire.
- Hourly rate: $21.00–$22.50 per hour, based on skills and experience, with eligibility for overtime and shift differentials.
- New employees receive a $500 sign‑bonus paid after 90 days upon meeting eligibility requirements.

- Primary schedule:
Monday – Friday, 5:30 am to 2:30 pm. - Special events and coverage issues may necessitate overtime hours, including weekends and holidays. Work assignments are reviewed and revised as necessary.
