New York Dept. of Environmental Conservation is hiring aSummer Intern to support the planning and execution of coastal fieldwork concentrated on the study of eelgrass seed maturation, flowering density, and seed density. Daily tasks will vary depending on scheduling and project needs. General responsibilities will include planning for fieldwork (scheduling with volunteers, planning for tides, observing weather trends), preparing for sampling (reviewing protocols, organizing equipment, and coordinating logistics), and assisting with performing fieldwork (collecting field samples, performing quadrat assessments via snorkeling or wading, and filling out data sheets).
On non-field days, the intern will be responsible for processing and assessing field samples, performing data entry, organizing data, and carrying out quality assurance and quality control. If time and capacity allow, the intern may also aid the research of existing regulatory frameworks for seagrass management, literature reviews on topics related to seagrass conservation, and the planning and preparation of stakeholder workshops.
