Essential Job Functions
- Responds to emergency calls for fire suppression, medical assistance, hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle accidents and other emergency situations.
- Maintains a state of readiness for emergency response.
- Maintains stock of equipment and supplies on fire vehicles, emergency squads and in fire stations.
- Provides protection of life and property. Suppresses, controls and extinguishes fires.
- Performs search, rescue, extrication of victims and forcible entries.
- Performs cleanup activities.
- Drives, operates and monitors a variety of fire and emergency vehicles and emergency medical equipment.
- Administers first aid, artificial respiration, life support or other medical care according to level of certification.
- Inspects buildings for pre-fire plans, fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances.
- Prepares and completes various forms and reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Meet the requirements of Georgia Fire Laws and Regulations Annotated section 25-4-8 as listed below
- High school diploma or GED
- Pass a post offer of employment Criminal History background check (No felony convictions within the past 10 years)
- Pass a post offer of employment physical exam
- Successfully complete a physical evaluation battery (PEB) based on NFPA 1582 standards
- Pass a post offer of employment drug/alcohol screening
- Possess a valid class A or Class B drivers license
- Must have one year of service with a comparable full service fire department
- Must have successfully completed the NPQ Firefighter I Certification written and practical testing conducted by the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council and the Georgia Fire Academy
- Must have successfully completed Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate medical training as outlined by the Georgia Department of Human Resources (EMS Division)
- Meet guidelines established in NFPA 1001 Firefighter Professional Qualifications, Chapter 4
- Work schedule is 56 hours per week which may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Non-certified Firefighter new hire pay will be reduced by 5% until certification is obtained.
