Responsibilities
  • Leads or trains professional and administrative staff
  • Serves as a lead worker for related tasks
  • Monitors consultants’ progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements
  • Reviews and processes Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submissions, special specifications, or special provisions
  • Evaluates and recommends project plans Gründen and schedules to enhance execution efficiency
  • Performs advanced and complex engineering design work including layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
  • Conducts advanced planning tasks such as plan review, calculations and transportation studies
  • Recommends practices for Critical Path Method scheduling, budgeting, and baseline management
  • Performs complex hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of structures over waterways and summarizes in report form
  • Applies project‑management principles to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control and close complex transportation projects
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science, or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience

Required by level:

  • Transportation Engineer I: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience
  • Transportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience
  • Transportation Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience
  • Transportation Engineer IV: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience
  • Transportation Engineer V: 8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience

Related graduate‑level education may replace experience on a 1:1 basis.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license (state vehicle required)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Open Water Diver certification if performing underwater bridge inspections
  • Bridge Inspector training course or NICET Level III or IV certification within one year of hire (for bridge inspections)
Technical Skills
  • Hydrologic, hydraulic and geotechnical design activities and principles
  • Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review and compliance requirements
  • Construction phasing and sequencing
  • Engineering workstations and applications for efficient planning and design
  • Design and plan preparation methods and requirements
