Overview
Technician I
$1,500 sign-on bonus available for applicants who already hold a CDL with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements.
Transdev in Brownsville, TX is seeking a Technician I, to bolster our team. This role demands expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines across various vehicles and equipment. As a Tech I, you ll play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our vehicles.

- Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs with minimal supervision on both basic and complex maintenance such as replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, check fluid levels, change fluids and filters and lubricate components.
- Perform mechanical repairs under minimal supervision including the repair of brakes and brake inspections, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches and other repairs.
- Maintain records of all maintenance work completed on vehicles including parts and supplies used. Ensure that work orders are completed properly and accurately. Maintain parts usage records and order repair parts from designated suppliers.
- Diagnoses and performs accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under minimal supervision. May perform diagnostic tests utilizing a computer and manufacturer s software to determine mechanical defects.
- Lead preventative maintenance (PM s), safety maintenance inspections and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals of time and usage
- Remove, overhaul and reinstallation of mechanical components with minimal Tech in Charge supervision
- Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken
- Evaluates completed work prior to release and seeks approval where required
- Leads road calls and emergency services as necessary
- Moves vehicles safely between job and work area
- Repair and maintain all shop equipment
- Other responsibilities as requested or required
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred)
- Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire)
- State inspection license (if required)
- ASE Certification preferred. Must participate in ASE testing program (expected to have 2 ASE within 6 months of hire)
- Mechanical aptitude and 2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience
- Adhere to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards
- Valid driver s license
- Comfortable using hand tools
- Maintain an organized shop and clean work environment
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
- Possess adequate mechanic tool inventory to complete all assigned duties and maintained in a clean and safe manner
- The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
- Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions - 100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
- Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
- Push and pull objects, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
- Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
