Responsibilities & Scope of PracticeThe RN provides high‑quality, safe, cost‑effective, total nursing care to all patients. The RN assumes responsibility for overall coordination and integration of patient care based on the nursing process. The RN directs care according to established standards of safety, risk management, QI, and Infection Control, with the goal of discharging the patient with an optimum level of care provided. The RN also:
- Coordinates and plans patient care within the prescribed medical regime.
- Administers all medications safely and in a timely manner per hospital policy.
- Performs and fulfills all HICS (hospital incident command system) responsibilities, assignments, tasks, and roles as directed and needed by the facility in times of emergency and/or disaster.
- Knows the Hospital’s emergency codes, including purpose and appropriate action for each, and adheres to the Hospital policies and procedures for each emergency code.
This role provides direct clinical patient care on a per‑shift basis. The role will assume responsibility for assessing, planning, and implementing direct clinical care to assigned patients and at the unit level, while supervising staff and delegating appropriate care. The role supports the CNO to ensure high quality, safe, and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and resource management related to patient care.
EducationRequired:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing.
Preferred:
Recent acute care experience.
Required:
Current license, certification, or registration to practice as required by law or regulation in your state of practice. Must have AHA BLS. Depending on unit of hire, AHA ACLS and/or PALS and/or NRP may also be required.
