Bechtel, a global leader in project delivery for large-scale infrastructure and energy projects, is seeking skilled Combination Welders at the Journey Level for the Rio Grande LNG project in Brownsville, Texas. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on one of the largest LNG developments in the US Gulf Coast. Candidates must demonstrate advanced welding capabilities and a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Primary Function:The primary responsibility of the Combination Welder is to perform high-quality welds using SMAW and GTAW processes for component installation and structural assemblies. The role includes metal fit-up, alignment, inspection, and adherence to strict quality and safety standards on industrial-scale LNG construction projects.
Tools and Equipment Used:- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) equipment
- Welding electrodes and torches
- Precision measuring tools (calipers, straight edges, combination squares)
- Alloy piping and pressure vessels
- Metal plates and fabricated assemblies
- Construction blueprints and technical weld procedures
- Perform welding tasks using SMAW and/or GTAW in multiple positions
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Fit, align, and secure components using tack welding techniques
- Inspect welds using standard acceptance criteria before formal QA evaluation
- Maintain worksite cleanliness and adhere to good housekeeping practices
- Use grinders and other tools for weld preparation and post-weld finishing
- Observe and follow all company and site‑specific safety protocols
- Collaborate with supervisors and other tradespeople to ensure project alignment
- Participate in training and professional development provided by Bechtel
- Competitive Hourly Rate – $34.50 per hour
- Daily Per Diem – $75 per workday for eligible non‑local personnel
