Position: TPWD - Maintenance Specialist III (Operations Ranger)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Park Management Team, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for performing all phases in the daily operation and maintenance of park facilities, grounds, and equipment for Resaca de la Palma State Park. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, hand tools, and power tools. Provides quality visitor services by issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information to, and registering visitors using an automated registration system.

Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks, and interprets the parks natural resources. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Completes all reports as needed. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate equipment and tools for maintenance and construction tasks.
  • Issue permits, collect revenue, and register visitors using an automated system.
  • Enforce park rules and regulations.
  • Interpret natural resources and perform resource management tasks.
  • Complete reports and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum
  • Education:

    Graduation from High School or GED.
  • Experience:

    Three years facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.
  • Licensure:
    Valid state driver’s license.

NOTE:

Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses.

Acceptable Substitutions
  • Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with the public.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • General facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance knowledge.
  • Basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Accounting/accountability of revenue collection.
  • Basic mathematics and general custodial duties.
  • Construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.
  • Building materials and use of hand and power tools.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and customer service.
  • Work relationships with co‑workers and work‑related contacts.
  • Independent decision making and troubleshooting.
  • Fast‑paced environment flexibility and multiple priorities.
  • Cash handling and revenue accounting.
