Job Summary

In this role, you will integrate safety and health requirements into complex project planning, design, and operations to reduce the potential for adverse impacts. You will perform risk assessments, provide input on bid decisions, lead meetings and communications, and track and monitor performance trends. Your recommendations will contribute to enhanced quality of safety procedures and work processes.

Major Responsibilities
  • Facilitate execution of the safety component of an ESH Program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects.
  • Help prepare and implement Safety and Health Management Plans, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
  • Provide input to Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Subcontracts, Commissioning, and other groups involving safety and health issues, risks, and techniques to reduce adverse impacts.
  • Interpret and integrate safety and health requirements in proposals, planning documents, risk assessment, and ESH program execution.
  • Research moderately complex issues and regulatory requirements, perform studies and risk assessments, and prepare documentation and reports.
  • Provide support and guidance for safety studies, risk assessments, and program reviews and audits.
  • Help establish emergency preparedness and perform incident investigations.
  • Interface and communicate with stakeholders and help resolve their concerns.
  • Participate in, or lead, meetings with customers, team members, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct ESH inspections and monitoring to identify hazards and risks, evaluate controls and corrective actions, and assess compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Level I – Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5‑8 years of relevant experience.
  • Level II – Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to occupational safety or health and 8‑10 years of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Specialized knowledge in a safety specialty (e.g., Personal Protective Equipment, lockout/tagout, fall protection, excavation, People Based Safety) or engineering (e.g., civil, process safety, mechanical) or related disciplines.
  • Knowledge of safety management, monitoring programs, principles, and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of safety and health laws and regulations and applicable agencies’ permitting processes and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of engineering, construction, and subcontract work processes.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication and knowledge of computer applications.
Physical Requirements

Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress).

Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
