Operate conventional machine shop equipment while building, repairing, and preparing injection mold tooling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Operate and maintain lathe, milling machine, drill press, and other conventional machine shop equipment.
- Review drawings, instructions, blueprints, or samples to ensure accurate work.
- Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping.
- Select appropriate machine and settings for a given task.
- Plan proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
- Monitor machine while working, adjusting feed, maintaining temperature, and identifying issues.
- Complete checklists for apprentices and mold polishers.
- Sharpen cutters, drills, and sprue cutters.
- Identify need for and perform machine maintenance and minor repairs.
- Maintain a safe and clean workstation.
- Complete work assigned in accordance with verbal instructions and ask questions for clarity when needed.
- Complete work within required time.
- Trace lathe threading.
- Troubleshoot injection mold problems and tooling issues (e.g., part flashing).
- Respond to and provide solutions for tooling issues causing production downtime.
- Calculate tooling stack‑up from dimensions referenced on engineering drawings.
- Make new cutters from raw material.
- Maintain accurate record of work activity and time.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervision or management.

Qualifications- Certificate of completion from an accredited machine shop or tool and die vocational school preferred.
- Excellent coordination and mechanical skills.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in math.
- Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of metal properties and other materials.
High school diploma or equivalent and trade school certification preferred. Minimum of 2 years machine shop experience.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend sufficient English to follow work instructions and engineering drawings. Must be able to communicate well verbally with others.
Mathematical SkillsBasic mathematical skills and a solid understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances are required.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to resolve complex problems.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMust meet requirements for a forklift license.
Physical DemandsMust be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, and operate equipment.
Work EnvironmentExposure to noise, grease, coolants, metal and aluminum shavings, grinder dust, oil/dust, and motorized industrial vehicles.
