The Composites / Sheet Metal Technician is responsible for the inspection, repair, fabrication, and replacement of composite and sheet metal components on Bell 206 & 407 helicopters under a FAA 145 repair station. This role supports the continued airworthiness of the aircraft by performing maintenance in accordance with approved data, manufacturer manuals, and aviation regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities Composite Work- Inspect, repair, and fabricate composite components such as cowlings, fairings, rotor blade skins (as applicable), and interior panels
- Perform composite layups, bonding, curing, sanding, and finishing
- Identify damage such as delamination, cracks, or impact damage and determine appropriate repair methods
- Use approved materials, resins, and repair procedures per Bell maintenance manuals and SRMs
- Fabricate and repair aluminum and light alloy structures including skins, panels, brackets, and doublers
- Perform cutting, forming, bending, drilling, deburring, and riveting
- Repair corrosion, cracks, and structural damage in accordance with approved data
- Install and remove structural components while maintaining proper alignment and fit
- Conduct detailed visual and dimensional inspections
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, maintenance manuals, IPCs, and structural repair manuals
- Accurately document maintenance actions in aircraft records and logbooks
- Ensure all work complies with FAA/EASA/Transport Canada regulations (as applicable)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely and correctly
- Coordinate with A&P/AME technicians, inspectors, and supervisors
- Follow quality control and safety procedures at all times
- Experience in aircraft composites and/or sheet metal repair
- Familiarity with Bell 206 structures and materials (preferred)
- Ability to read and understand aircraft maintenance manuals and drawings
- Strong attention to detail and workmanship quality
- A&P License or AME License (or working toward certification)
- Previous rotary-wing or Bell helicopter experience
- Training in aircraft composite repair techniques
- Precision hand skills and mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of aviation materials and repair methods
- Time management and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Strong safety mindset
- Hangar and shop environment
- May require standing, bending, lifting, and working in confined areas
- Use of PPE and exposure to resins, solvents, and metal dust
