Job Description

The Controller position manages corporate accounting operations and ensures the complete, accurate and timely accomplishment of financial and accounting records for the Client.

Essential Functions include:

Department:

• Oversees all general accounting functions including the general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets and monthly financial close.
• Directs the development, enhancement and implementation of accounting policies, controls, procedures, and processes while ensuring the highest performance standards.
• Develops and executes a department business plan and budget.
• Ensures the department meets all deadlines with respect to settlement activities.
• Maintains an effective retention plan of accounting documents for efficient and timely research.
• Promotes and facilitates professional employee development.

Enterprise:

• Leads the preparation of monthly financial reports, quarterly reforecasts and annual expense budget.
• Creates appropriate expense controls for the organization.
• Represents the accounting function in meetings and committees.
• Collects and translates enterprise data, assessing riskch and profitability.
• Provides bookkeeping assistance for the foundation.

Regulatory:

• Monitors all accounting activities to ensure conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable laws, regulations and client policies/procedures.
• Adheres to all Federal and State laws and regulations applicable to the client, including the Bank Secrecy Act and OFAC.
• Liaison to external auditors and regulators. Major contributor for annual audit and regulatory exam.
• Ensures the accuracy of regulatory and tax reporting (FR2900, 5300 Call Report, QCD and 990).
• Oversees accounting and financial reporting for the investment and derivative portfolios. Ensures compliance with the Derivative program and Hedge Accounting (ASC 815).

Education and Experience:



• Minimum:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.

• Minimum:
Ten (10) years of progressive accounting experience.

• Minimum:
Three (3) years of experience leading an accounting team.

• Ability to hire, lead and supervise others.

• Expert in financial accounting principles and GAAP.

• Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills that promotes confidence, respect and trust.

• Develops collaborative connections at all levels of the organization.

Preferred

Education and Experience:

• MBA, Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and/or CPA
• Previous work experience within the financial services/industry
• Symitar and Profit Star systems experience a plus.

Must-Haves

1. Three (3+) years of Financial Institution experience within a bank.

2. Ten (10) years of progressive accounting experience.

3. Three (3) years of experience leading an accounting team.

4. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.

Nice-To-Haves

1. Symitar and Profit Star systems experience a plus.
